The Community Relations Department is subdivided into two divisions: Communications and Broadcast Services, which oversees the Shelby TV studios and content. The Shelby Township Community Relations Department provides accurate information to the public through all means of communication. It enforces ordinances such as Tree & Woodland Preservation, anti-Blight, Litter, Business Licenses, Sidewalk, Animal Control, Solid Waste, and several sections of the Zoning Ordinance. The Ordinance Department deals with the Police Department, Fire Department, Building Department, Department of Public Works, and the Recreation and Maintenance Department. They also deal with the Fire and Police Pension and Retirement Board, and several other committees and commissions as well as the Building Authority. This office deals with the Historical, Beautification, Sidewalk and Solid Waste and Recycling Committees. The Clerk’s Office is the official keeper of the Township Records as well as overseeing the administration of elections and the keeping of voter registrations. It deals with any building problems or concerns. The Building Department administers and enforces ordinance provisions pertaining to fences, sidewalks, tree and woodland preservation, and unsafe buildings and zoning. It improves buildings, administers and oversees a number of real property and personal property tax exemption programs, provides tax information, and serves as a source for real and personal property valuation issues and assessment administration. The Assessing Department deals with legal descriptions and property location maps of land.
